“Hwayi: A Monster Boy” directed by Jang Joon Hwan will be remade in Hollywood.
On May 19, according to Hollywood reporter, Lee Jun Dong, head of Now Films, had a conversation with U.s-based Spanish producer Frida Torresblanco about plans for remake of Hwayi at the Cannes.
Frida Torresblanco produced Pan’s Labyrinth in 2006.
The remake of Hwayi: A Monster Boy will be produced differently with any other Korean movies that were remade in Hollywood before. He opted to co-produce the remake version rather than sell rights to remake.
He decided to co-produce with Hollywood because Korean movie was not fully remade when they were remade in Hollywood so far.
Hwayi: A Monster Boy starring Kim Yoon Seok and Yeo Jin Goo is about a teenage boy raised by five criminal fathers. It portrays revenge and conflicts when he started to discover the truth about his past. It was released on October 2014 and gathered about 2.3 millions of audience.
