TWICE made their back to the Korean music scene on the 30th at 6:00 p.m. with their title song “Likey” from their first full-length album, Twicetagram.  

At 12:00 a.m. on the day of their comeback, a cover photo image of “Likey” along with lyrics for the song were posted on TWICE’s official website, Twitter, and Facebook. The same posts also went up on the official website, Twitter, and Facebook belonging to the group’s agency, JYP Entertainment.

In their second year as a group after debuting on October 20, 2016, TWICE approached their first full-length album with the intention of expressing themselves in their present glittering state, just as an SNS account would capture the moments of your everyday life that you want to hold onto forever.

The title song “Likey” was written and composed by Black Eyed Pilseung and Jeon Gun. “Likey” has been highly anticipated by fans as it is a hidden track produced specifically for TWICE by Black Eyed Pilseung, who is responsible for other mega hit songs performed by the group including TWICE’s debut song “Like OOH-AHH,” “CHEER UP,” and “TT.” The song’s futuristic electro-pop sound, with its vivacious pop elements, is in perfect harmony with the bright and cheerful image of the group.

With Black Eyed Pilseung standing at the head of the pack, the 13 tracks on the album were produced by famous producers from both Korea and abroad such as Jeon Gun, e.one, earattack, Pop Time, Kiggen, Jowul, Fox Stevenson, Darren Smith, and mr.cho. The members themselves got involved with writing the lyrics for some of the album’s tracks. Such songs include “Missing U” with rap lyrics written by Dahyun and Chaeyoung; “24/7” written by Nayeon and Jihyo; “Love Line” written by Jeongyeon; and “Don’t Give Up” by Chaeyeong. Labelmate Hyerim from the Wonder Girls also contributed a song to the album by writing and composing a track called “Look At Me.”

The interest for “Likey” from the group’s fan base has been red hot since before the comeback. Expectations for the new song – their third single released this year – have been heightened due to the slew of success the group’s past singles have had, from their debut song “Like OOH-AHH,” to “KNOCK KNOCK” from this past February, and “SIGNAL” from May.

Before the release of their comeback single, TWICE piqued the interest of their fans by unleashing a relay of teaser content including: teaser images with the group showing off their individual personalities by posing with a variety of adorable props; moving photos; a tracklist along with a group teaser image with a party/picnic theme; and individual teaser videos with cute emoticons in the background that emphasized the group’s bubbly appeal. 

Afterwards, two separate teaser videos were shown for the “Likey” music video. One video revealed the cheerful melody and highlights of the song to unveil the mood of the new song, while the other captured what’s suspected to be the main choreography of “Likey.”

TWICE has also been causing quite a stir in Japan as their first original Japanese single released on October 18 broke a number of records. These records include: most copies of a single sold on the day of its release by a Korean girl group debuting in Japan; most copies of a single sold in a week by a Korean group (a record that was broken in two days); most copies of a debut single sold in a week by a foreign artist in Japan (record set in four days); and most copies of a first single sold in the first week by any artist – Japanese artists included. The single also stayed at the top of the Oricon Daily Singles chart for six consecutive days, and reached the top spot of the Oricon Weekly Singles chart and the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart. After being certified platinum by the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) for selling more than 270,000 copies of their debut compilation album #TWICE, TWICE showcased their magnificence with their first single achieving mega hit status.

TWICE, who has their sights set on dominating the Korean music charts after their huge success in Japan, have released their title song “Likey” along with the rest of the tracks from their first studio album Twicetagram at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th. On the same day at 8:00 p.m., the group performed a showcase that was streamed live on V LIVE at YES 24 Live Hall located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.
