On May 22, there were a lot of people to cast their vote at Seoul polling place for MBC “Infinite Challenge”. All age groups took part in this election. In the morning hours, office workers and college students appeared. In the afternoon, middle & high school students appeared in groups. Since the response of this election is enthusiastic than expected, it is obvious that staff of this event were also happy. A staff who took charge of two polling places said with a smile that “I am so busy that I even don’t have a time to breathe despite of people who came here in early morning.” When asked about the number of voter, he pointed a paper box which was placed in the corner. Lots of Elector’s list were jammed in the box. “You don’t need identification. Instead, you should bring it at the 6.4 local election.” It was impressed by the fact that all the staff and Infinite Challenge’s members who related to this election didn’t miss saying about 6.4 local election. This represents that “Infinite Challenge” tried to deliver some message more than a humor and impression. That is, the opportunity of this project is in changing public attitudes to the election and promotion for upcoming 6.4 local election. It is also remarkable that citizens who engage in this event already recognized the opportunity of event. A office worker Mr. Park said “I’m here to vote by having morning off. I decided to vote since I can participate in the program and above all, “Infinite Challenge” publicizes the importance of election through variety show.” Mrs. Lee who came here with a young son said “I heard that “Infinite Challenge is having a trouble in viewership. I wanted to be of help a little. Also I am interested in the election more than before. I felt the power of broadcasting.” Infinite Challenge’s new project “Choices to Choose for 2014” is not ended with just delivering a message. Actually, organized process of this event reminds the real election. Infinite Challenge didn’t limit the age due to the nature of TV program, but election process was not much different from real election. Election proceeded with a ballot which is given after having fingerprint recognition.
The strictness was not only applied to election, but members of Infinite Challenge. When asked about their public pledges, they said “We can’t say pledges since it is not period of campaign.” And when they leave the polling place, they said “Please have an interest in 6.4 local election.” Not a “Please vote for me.” Eventually, “Infinite Challenge” goes beyond the crisis such as falling ratings and former member’s DUI controversy. Also they proved an irreplaceable value of “Infinite Challenge” arousing interests in 6.4 local election. Before closing of polls, members dropped by MBC Yeoido polling place and said “Thank you” several times to the many citizens. From their attitudes, it is not too much say that “Infinite Challenge” would have their heyday again.
