‘Young Chick’ is a nickname that belongs to Yoo Sun-Ho, a singer who has now been active for not 6 but 10 months in Cube Entertainment.
Yoon Sun-Ho, who had just learned the basics of dance in February this year, appeared in Mnet ‘PRODUCE 101’ season. Therefore, there wasn’t a great amount of expectation from his skills. However, throughout the show, the audience could not help but fall into his pure charms and abundant potential.
Maybe it was because of his young age, but he showed a lot of growth within the contest. He claimed, “I want to grow into a chicken,” and it was a reason why people have high expectations of him in the future.
10. You have an electronic billboard advertisement in the subway station thanks to ‘PRODUCE 101’ season 2.
Yoo Sun-Ho: I went to see it the day before the final performance. I was actually really tired but then I saw all the post-its messages (from my fans). It cheered me up as it was something my fans had prepared for me. At first when I heard about the billboard advertisement, I was amazed and really wanted to go see it. I would have regretted not going to see it.
10. Was there a memorable post-it message you remember?
Yoo Sun-Ho: My mom, dad, and younger brother left me a message. (In an unfortunate voice) But I wasn’t able to see it for myself. I only saw it through a photo because someone took the post-it. I still remember how it looked like. My little brother wrote ‘Good luck to Lai Kuan Lin too!’
10. You have fans even before making your official debut.
Yoo Sun-Ho: It still feels so surreal. It’s amazing and bewildering when people recognize me.
10. When did you dream of becoming a singer?
Yoo Sun-Ho: I competed in a Youth Arts Festival with my school band. At that time, I was casted by Cube Entertainment. I was actually a pianist. I wasn’t really good at singing. (Laughs) I played the piano for a while before that. My dad hoped I would pursue music and I came to where I am now due to this opportunity.
10. How did you feel being casted?
Yoo Sun-Ho: I received a lot of casting proposals. I received business cards from Cube Entertainment, JYP, TOP and more. I wondered why these big corporations wanted me. (Laughs) I thought it was all a fraud, but I realized it was real after talking it over with my mom.
10. So, you came into Cube Entertainment through an audition right? What song did you sing?
Yoo Sun-Ho: I sang Lim Chang-Jung’s ‘A shot of Soju’ and danced to Apink’s ‘NoNoNo’. I did not know how to dance. (Laughs)
10. You sang a song ‘A Shot of Soju’ as an underage kid?(Laughs) You also sang it has a favorite in ‘PRODUCE 101’ season 2.
Yoo Sun-Ho: It was a song I always liked when I was young. I always sang this song because I liked it and so it became a favorite.
10. Didn’t you prepare for ‘Trouble Maker’ with Lai Kuan Lin during the entertainment company evaluation?
Yoo Sun-Ho: That was a performance we had to suddenly prepare for. We received dance classes for 8 hours every day. It was hard to carry out a girl dance. (10. The facial expressions were unusual.) I was awesome with facial expressions~ But I didn’t know it would air on television. Lai Kuan Lin and I were surprised to see it on television and screamed when we saw it.
10. Do you have a role model?
Yoo Sun-Ho: I am a fan of the group Pentagon. (Laughs) The Pentagon members helped me a lot before I appeared on ‘PRODUCE 101’. Jin-Ho and Hui helped me with my singing and Hong-Seok helped me with my dancing. Hui actually gave me one-on-one lessons and gave me a lot of advice. They are really warm towards their juniors.
10. What did Pentagon say when the program ended?
Yoo Sun-Ho: After the live broadcast, they told me how to touching it was. Kino even gave me a hug.
10. You have a great friendship.
Yoo Sun-Ho: (With a twinkling gaze) Should I talk about each Pentagon member? Yan-An enjoys pizza with me and Hong-Seok always greets me warmly. Yeo-One also helped me a lot with my singing. Yuto also contacted me after ‘PRODUCE 101’ season 2 was over. Shin-Won and I met in the parking lot and he asked me if I was okay and gave me a pat in the back. He told me that he voted. (Laughs) And he said, “How are you going to repay my 100 won (cost of SMS voting)?”…(All laughs) Woo-Seok only seemed to take care of Kuan Lin. (All explodes into laughter.) (Previously, Lai Kuan Lin revealed that Pentagon’s Woo-Seok was his role model.) E’Dawn hugged me and said I did well. We became close because singers in training spend 2~3 months together in the same space.
10. If you were to debut like Pentagon, how do you picture your future?
Yoo Sun-Ho: I think I still lack a lot of skills. (After debut) I want to be acknowledged that my skills improved and I really want to grow from a chick to a chicken.
10. What do you think are your strengths?
Yoo Sun-Ho: First of all, I do not get nervous. My friends usually get nervous on stage and so they are unable to show everything that they have prepared but I don’t think I am like that. So, I am able to show my fans everything that I have. I feel shy saying this myself but I am quite playful and I think my fans like the different sides I show on stage and of stage. (Laughs)
10. What do you think is important when you get on stage?
Yoo Sun-Ho: First, I think it is important to look at the camera during my parts but when the camera is not on me, I try to look at the fans who came to support me.
10. Are you still going through puberty?
Yoo Sun-Ho: I don’t think I hit puberty yet. I am scared because I don’t know when it will come. (Laughs)
10. Lastly, do you have any future resolutions?
Yoo Sun-Ho: More than it being a resolution, I would like to continue to work hard as I have worked this hard in the past and I look forward to meeting everyone in a better version of myself.
