Ever since she made her debut in 2010, Suzy has been a highly sought-after star. The year 2018 marks a new beginning for Suzy as she prepares to stand on her own after her group Miss A officially disbanded last year.
“I was busy last year with the release of my first solo album and with my starring role in the SBS TV drama, ‘While You Were Sleeping,” said Suzy. “I am sincerely thankful for all the love and support my fans have shown me.”
The success that Suzy achieved last year as a singer and an actress is worthy of attention and praise. In the first half of the year, the multi-talented star showed everyone her individual musical style and her capabilities as a solo artist with the release of her album titled Yes? No?. Her pre-released single, “Pretend,” reached the top spot of eight different music charts in the country and also came in at No. 1 on TV music programs. After the release of “Don’t Wait for Your Love,” her duet single with popular singer-songwriter Park Won, people started to recognize Suzy for her skills as a musical artist after being thought of as just a “popular actress” for so long by the public.
In the latter half of the year, Suzy made impressive strides as an actress. She exceeded expectations when she showed off her acting chops as journalist Nam Hong-joo who can see the future in her dreams in While You Were Sleeping – a drama that was already highly anticipated when it was in pre-production for being written by star scriptwriter Park Hye-ryun and starring Lee Jong-suk. In scenes that required Suzy to give news reports, she was praised for her exceptional vocal delivery. Suzy’s impassioned performance in the drama’s emotional scenes had viewers glued to their TV screens. Her widely praised performance resulted in Suzy taking home the Top Excellence Actress award at the 2017 SBS Drama Awards.
“This year, I plan on working even more actively as a singer and an actress,” said Suzy. “I can’t divulge any more details, but I have more good music and good projects scheduled to come out this year.”
Suzy went on to say, “I pray that everyone’s new year is filled with happiness and blessings. Since I was born in the Year of the Dog, it feels a little different to be celebrating the coming of the near year – the Year of the Golden Dog. I hope you all look forward to what I have in store as I plan on working harder as a singer and an actress. Have a healthy and happy new year!”
