BLACKPINK has successfully wrapped up their second show at Coachella, one of the largest music festivals in the US.
On April 19 at 8 p.m. (local time), BLACKPINK performed at Coachella’s Sahara Tent in Indio, California. The festival’s official YouTube channel live-streamed select performances from Weekend 2, and BLACKPINK closed out the lineup.
After making their Coachella debut last week, the girls of BLACKPINK seemed to be more laid back for the second performance. “It’s a shock that more people came to see us after our first performance,” said the girls. “You guys are even more amazing, and we cannot hide our excitement.”
Fans in the crowd were seen holding BLACKPINK’s official heart-shaped light sticks, the group’s slogans, and signs in Korean that said things like, “We’re happier when we’re with you.” Chants in Korean could also be heard from the crowd during the group’s performance.
“For us to come all the way from Korea to perform at Coachella twice is like a dream come true. We’ll forever treasure the energy from today deep within our hearts,” said BLACKPINK.
Local media outlet Entertainment Tonight declared, “BLACKPINK is taking over Coachella!” and also made mention of the group’s sold out show at The Forum in Los Angeles and their appearance on The Late Night Show With James Corden.
Billboard posted an article titled, “Ariana Grande, Drake, Halsey & More: 25 of Blackpink’s Most Famous Fans.” According to Billboard, BLACKPINK “have inspired a huge fandom around the world and now, in Hollywood.” The article then went on to take a look at the 25 celeb fans that have become a part of the BLINK fandom, such as Dua Lipa, who collaborated with the group on the single “Kiss and Make Up”; Ariana Grande, who messaged a fan saying that she hoped to see the group at Coachella; Harry Styles, Pharrell, DJ Snake, and Benny Blanco, who showed up at the group’s LA concert; and Drake, who follows BLACKPINK on Instagram.
The ladies of BLACKPINK were also seen snapping photos at Coachella with some of the hottest celebrities, including Khalid and Will and Jaden Smith. Khalid showed his support for the group by saying, “I think it’s just the beginning [for them]. I look forward to their activities in the US.” Jaden Smith also offered up some praise and said, “Their performance today was amazing. I had a great time.” Will Smith uploaded the photo that he and Jada Pinkett Smith took with the group at Coachella to his Instagram account and declared that the celebrity couple “are officially fans.”
After making history at Coachella, BLACKPINK will now be heading out to continue on with their North American tour. The tour will include a stop in Chicago, Illinois on April 24; Hamilton, Ontario on April 27; Newark, New Jersey on May 1 and 2; Atlanta, Georgia on May 5; and Forth Worth, Texas on May 8 and 9, for a total of 8 shows in 6 cities (including opening show at LA on April 17).
