Super Junior has been making news for topping the Korean albums chart of Taiwan’s largest online music site, KKBOX, for the 100th week.
The group’s 8th studio album, PLAY, which was released on November 6, 2017, sat at the top of the charts for 23 weeks, from November 6, 2017 to April 12, 2018.
With REPLAY, the repackaged version of their 8th album which was released on April 12 of last year, the group protected the No. 1 spot on the chart from April 13, 2018 to October 3, 2019, for a total of 77 weeks.
Previously, Super Junior had been recognized for being at the top of KKBOX’s weekly Korean singles chart for 121 weeks, which is longer than any other artist. The group stayed in the No. 1 position on the weekly chart from the first week of June in 2019 to the third week of September in 2012 with “Bonamana,” the title track of the group’s 4th album, “Mr. Simple” from their 5th album, and “Sexy, Free & Single” from the group’s 6th album.
All eyes will be on the release of Super Junior’s 9th album, Time_Slip, scheduled to drop on October 14, to see if they’ll be able to break their record of 121 weeks.
In addition, when the music video for “I Think I,” a pre-released track from the group’s 9th album, was unveiled on October 4, it immediately became the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter worldwide (as of 12:00 a.m. on Oct. 5).
Super Junior is scheduled to hold two headlining shows as a part of the SUPERJUNIOR WORLD TOUR – SUPER SHOW 8 on October 12 and 13 at the KSPO Dome in Seoul, and will be releasing their 9th album Time_Slip at 6:00 p.m. on the following day (Oct. 14).
