The TEN Asia K-Pop Global TOP TEN Awards, the awards event where K-pop fans from 10 Asian countries submit online and mobile votes for their favorite idols, closed its preliminary round on October 14. The 8 musical acts who passed the preliminaries won the popularity award for the country in which they placed first, and from October 15 to 29, they will be duking it out in the final round to decide who the most popular idol or idol group is in all of Asia.

This year’s event, which is officially in its second year, is being held to celebrate the publication of TEN STAR magazine’s 100th issue. A total of 30 nominees were chosen among the stars that had been featured in TEN STAR over the years. Selection for the final nominees was based on a combination of the artists’ chart rankings and album sales, and a preliminary round of voting was held from October 1 to 14. In total, 1,474,931 votes were submitted over the two-week period, which is more than three times the amount of votes that were sent last year.

With most of the votes coming from Korea, solo artist Kang Daniel came in first with 49.07% of the votes. Kang, who also ranked high with voters from Vietnam and Hong Kong, came out on top overall in the preliminaries and moved on to the final round.

Solo artist Ha Sung Woon won the popularity award for Japan and Hong Kong. Ha, who nearly caught up with Kang Daniel in terms of the number of votes sent in from Korean fans, demonstrated his global appeal by also coming in second place among K-pop fans in Vietnam. Idol group NU’EST moved on to the final round by coming in first among voters in both Vietnam and Malaysia.

Making an appearance in the final round for the second consecutive year are Super Junior and GOT7, who received an overwhelming percentage of the votes from China and Thailand, respectively. By pulling in 67.75% of the votes submitted from China, Super Junior won by the largest margin over the second-place group. Among votes from Thailand, GOT7 accounted for an impressive 61.78% of the votes. This marks the second straight year for GOT7 to come out on top with fans from Thailand, confirming the unchanging love that local fans have for the group.

The group INFINITE, who came out on top last year with Malaysian voters, moved on to the final round for the second year in a row by getting the most votes from fans in Taiwan. The dark horse of this year is ASTRO, who came in first place among voters from the Philippines, although it was their first year being nominated.

The most ferocious battle for first place took place among fans from Indonesia. Stray Kids, who came in first with 35.8% of the votes, won by a margin of a mere 1.22% over NCT DREAM.
