Bong Joon Ho’s award-winning film Parasite has raked in more than USD 11 million at the North American box office. It is the highest grossing foreign-language release in the US this year.
According to Box Office Mojo and American media company Variety, as of November 10 (local time), Parasite has earned $11,278,976 at the North American box office.
As the highest-grossing foreign-language film, Parasite has beat out the previous holder of the title, No Manches Frida 2, which was released in March and earned $9.27 million. Parasite has also become the most successful Korean film to ever be released in North America by beating out D-War (2007), which made $10.48 million at the box office.
Over the weekend (November 8-10), Parasite expanded from 461 to 603 theaters. The success of the film along with the rave reviews from American moviegoers have increased the possibility of the film taking home an award at the Oscars next year.
