Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite has earned a total of 6 nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best International Feature Film (formerly called Best Foreign Language Film), Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Production Design, and Best Film Editing. Parasite is the first Korean film to make it to the final list of nominees for the Academy Awards. 

The official nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards were announced on January 13 (local time) by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organization that presents the Oscars.

Nominees for Best Picture include: Ford v Ferrari (directed by James Mangold), The Irishman (directed by Martin Scorsese), Jojo Rabbit (directed by Taika Waititi), Joker (directed by Todd Phillips), Little Women (directed by Greta Gerwig), Marriage Story (directed by Noah Baumbach), 1917 (directed by Sam Mendes), and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (directed by Quentin Tarantino).

Bong will be facing off against Martin Scorsese (The Irishman), Todd Phillips (Joker), Sam Mendes (1917), and Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) for the Best Director Oscar.

Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won, who co-wrote the screenplay for Parasite, were also nominated for Best Original Screenplay along with Rian Johnson (Knives Out), Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story), Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), and Krysty Wilson-Cairns and Sam Mendes (1917). 

Other nominees in the Best International Feature Film category include: Corpus Christi (Poland), Honeyland (North Macedonia), Les Misérables (France), and Pain and Glory (Spain). 

Nominees for Best Film Editing, in addition to Parasite, include: Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, and Joker. Nominees in the Best Production Design category include: Parasite, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, 1917, and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

In the Absence (directed by Yi Seung Jun), a short documentary about the Sewol Ferry tragedy, received an Oscar nod for Best Documentary Short Subject. 

The Academy Awards are the most esteemed awards ceremony for film in the US. The 92nd Academy Awards will be held on February 9 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
