CEO/executive producer Bang Si Hyuk of Big Hit Entertainment has made it on to the 2020 Billboard Power List.
On January 23, Billboard posted their selection of the most influential figures, by sector, in the music industry on their website. Bang was recognized for his influence in the management sector.
In describing Bang’s achievements, Billboard wrote that he “diversified his South Korean company’s exploding business” last year. They also explained: “BTS continued to rise globally in 2019, with the K-pop boy band becoming the first group since The Beatles to score three Billboard 200 No. 1s in under a year… Big Hit premiered its first new group since BTS with Tomorrow X Together (which topped Billboard’s World Albums chart), acquired Source Music (a subsidiary label that’s home to high-charting girl group GFriend) and launched the mobile game BTS World – all while reporting, in August, record revenue of $172 million for the first half of 2019.”
The annual Billboard Power List rounds up and reports on the leaders of the music industry who are making a global impact. For the first time this year, the list has been organized into sectors such as executives, management, streaming, and more.
Other names on the list in addition to Bang Si Hyuk include Lucian Grainge, chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group, Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music Group, and Daniel Ek, founder/CEO of Spotify.
Bang has been making his impact felt in the global music industry by also being selected for other lists such as Billboard’s New Power Generation list in 2019, Billboard’s International Power Players list for two years in a row, and Variety’s International Music Leaders list, also for two consecutive years.
