The Grammy Awards have officially begun.
The 62nd Grammy Awards are being held today at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. In South Korea, the ceremony will be broadcast live exclusively by Mnet at 9:55 a.m. KST.
Just like last year, Alicia Keys will be taking on the hosting duties for this year’s event. The star-studded performance lineup for the 62nd Grammys include: Aerosmith, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Demi Lovato, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello, H.E.R, Jonas Brothers, Rosalía, Tyler, The Creator, YG, John Legend, and DJ Khaled.
After becoming the first Korean artists to attend the Grammy Awards last year, BTS was invited back to the ceremony this year to take the stage for a performance. BTS will be joining Lil Nas X for an all-star performance of “Old Town Road” along with Diplo, Mason Ramsey, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
BTS’s leader RM was featured on Lil Nas X’s “Seoul Town Road (Old Town Road Remix),” which was released in July 2019. RM wrote the English lyrics that he sang in the song at the suggestion of Lil Nas X. For the Grammys, all seven members will be on stage for the “Old Town road” all-star performance.
The Grammys will also be honoring rapper Nipsey Hussle with a tribute performance. The late rapper, who tragically died last year after being gunned down in front of his store in Los Angeles, was beloved for his music and for his contributions to the black community in the US. “There is no denying the influence he had and his legacy will be felt for generations to come,” said Ken Ehrlich, Grammy Awards executive producer. “We are honored to bring together this amazing group of artists to celebrate Nipsey’s life and pay tribute to his many contributions to music. It’s sure to be a memorable performance.”
There is also a great deal of interest, this year, surrounding the nominees of the major award categories. After getting the whole world to sing along to “Bad Guy,” one of the biggest hits of 2019, 18-year-old Billie Eilish has been nominated for a total of six awards, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. The music world will surely be watching to see if Eilish will break the record set by Taylor Swift, who became the youngest solo artist to win Album of the Year when she took home the award at age 20. Singer-songwriter Lizzo – whose song “Truth Hurts” stayed at the top of the Billboard charts for seven straight weeks – is up for the most nominations with eight, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
The Mnet live broadcast of the Grammy Awards will be hosted by radio DJ Bae Chul Soo, music critic Im Chin Mo, and VJ Ahn Hyun Mo.
