The countdown for the release of BTS’s upcoming album has begun with the unveiling of the comeback trailer, “Outro: Ego.”
The “Outro: Ego” trailer for the group’s 4th studio album, MAP OF THE SOUL: 7, was uploaded on Big Hit Entertainment’s YouTube channel and the group’s fan community page, BTS Weverse, on February 3.
The star of the trailer, J-Hope, sings and raps about how the road to becoming J-Hope of BTS has not been an easy one, but as one’s destiny is the sum of their choices, he will keep walking down the road he has chosen.
In line with the lyrics which look back at the 7 years since the group’s debut, the comeback trailer features a scene in which a quick scan is done of some of BTS’s content from the past. The trailer also makes use of artistic typography throughout the video, which is reminiscent of the kinetic typography that appeared in BTS’s debut trailer.
J-Hope’s carefree gestures and performance are in perfect harmony with the 2D collages and 3D graphic effects, providing more visual treats for the fans. J-Hope’s final destination, which is reached towards the end of the video, is maximized visually by being expressed as a large, flashy city where the image of present-day J-Hope is projected onto billboards.
“Outro : Ego” is an energetic pop track that samples the beat of “2 COOL 4 SKOOL,” the intro of BTS’s debut album of the same name, which was released in June of 2013.
BTS’s highly anticipated new album, MAP OF THE SOUL: 7, is scheduled to drop on February 21.
