“The genre is BTS. That’s the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre.”
The above quote comes from an interview between the Recording Academy – the organization that hosts the Grammy Awards every year – and BTS, who recently made their comeback on the 21st with their fourth studio album, Map of the Soul: 7.
On February 22 (local time), the Recording Academy posted an interview with the seven members of BTS, where they discussed their newest album. When asked during the interview about other genres of music the group may be interested in exploring in the future, Suga responded, “I think it’s less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now.”
When asked about the differences between Map of the Soul: 7 and the group’s previous album, Map of the Soul: Persona, RM explained, “The difference is [the] persona, which is like the social mask before the good things that we have, [like] the spotlight. This time [on 7] we talked about the real shades and shadows that we had inside, and also the big manifesto that we admitted: all the shadows as our destinies and we’re gonna carry on.”
The Recording Academy is an American learned academy of musicians, recording engineers, and other musical professionals. The academy hosts the Grammy Awards every year, which is considered to be one of the most esteemed award shows in music.
