Singer and actress IU has donated 200 million won (approximately $165,032) to help the fight against the COVID-19 virus.

On February 27, it was reported that IU made a donation of 100 million won to Good Neighbors – an NGO for international relief and development efforts – to aid in the prevention of the virus’s spread to local communities and the prevention of infection for low-income families and socially marginalized groups.

The star also donated 100 million won to the Korean Medical Association. According to reports, IU wanted to help the medical professionals who are on the front lines fighting against the COVID-19 virus, and her donation will be going toward providing protective clothing, masks, and other much-needed supplies.

“I decided to make the donation in the hopes that the spread of the virus to local communities could be prevented and low-income families and marginalized individuals could be safely protected,” IU said. “I hope that it can help families who are unable to purchase masks, hand sanitizers, and other protective supplies, to overcome the COVID-19 virus crisis, and that children can grow and develop in a healthy way.”

IU’s donation to Good Neighbors will be used to provide masks, hand sanitizers, and other protective supplies to low-income families and socially marginalized groups in Daegu and the North Gyeongsang Province.
