BTS has taken over Billboard’s main charts once again.
According to charts published by Billboard on March 3 (local time), BTS’s fourth studio album, Map of the Soul: 7, has landed at the top of the Billboard 200. In addition, the group’s new title track “ON,” Jungkook’s solo track “My Time,” and Jimin’s solo track “Filter” have all made their way onto the Hot 100 at numbers 4, 84, and 87, respectively.
“ON” coming in at No. 4 on the Hot 100 marks a personal best for BTS, who had the highest-charting song ever for a K-pop group last April with “Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey).”
BTS set yet another record with the release of their most recent album, as they became the first Korean musical artists to have three songs charting on the Hot 100 at once.
This newest record breaks another record that was set by BTS themselves, who became the first K-pop artists to land two songs simultaneously on the Hot 100 when “Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey)” and “Make It Right” from the album Map of the Soul: Persona both charted (Hot 100 chart dated April 27, 2019).
The K-pop idol group added another remarkable feat to their resume with Map of the Soul: 7, as it became the group’s fourth album to top the Billboard 200 in just over one year and nine months, following Love Yourself: Tear (June 2018), Love Yourself: Answer (September 2018), and Map of the Soul: Persona (April 2019). The rate at which BTS was able to get four albums on the Billboard 200 comes second only to the Beatles.
Other album charts that BTS has topped with Map of the Soul: 7 include the Billboard charts for Top Album Sales, Top Current Album Sales, Independent Albums, Canadian Albums, Tastemaker Albums, and World Albums.
Title track “ON” currently ranks at No. 1 in Digital Song Sales, No. 1 in World Digital Song Sales, No. 2 in Canadian Digital Song Sales, No. 12 in Streaming Songs, and No. 18 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. “ON” also sits at No. 1 on both the Artist 100 and Social 50 charts.
BTS’s third compilation album Love Yourself: Answer, which was released in August 2018, also made an appearance on the Billboard 200 this week, when it re-entered the chart at No. 133.
The group’s newest project, Map of the Soul: 7, is an album in which the seven members of BTS look back at the seven years that have passed since their debut. The album captures the stories of the members who have discovered their true selves after coming to accept the parts of themselves they want to show to the world, the shadows hidden inside, and the sides they didn’t want to face.
“ON” is a powerful and high-energy hip-hop track that features sounds from the UCLA marching band. The song expresses the group’s determination to accept their path as their destiny, and to keep moving forward.
