Actor Moon Ji Yoon has passed away at the age of 36.

On the afternoon of March 20, the actor’s body was taken from the funeral hall at Seoul’s Inje University Paik Hospital to be laid to rest.

The mood was somber as Moon’s family, close friends, and the staff from his management agency escorted the late actor to his final resting place.

Moon Ji Yoon passed away in the evening of March 18 due to acute septicemia. According to his management agency, he went into the hospital on the 16th for a severe sore throat. His condition then worsened and he was taken to the ICU, where he succumbed to the illness.

Netizens have expressed their shock over the news of the sudden death of the young actor, and many of Moon’s grief-stricken colleagues have taken to social media to extend their condolences to the actor’s loved ones. 

Moon Ji Yoon made his debut in 2002 with the drama Romance, and went on to star in other dramas such as I Love Hyun-jung, Sassy Girl Chun-hyang, Iljimae, Queen Seondeok of Silla, May Queen, and Cheese in the Trap, as well as movies such as Mr. Wacky and Whatcha Wearin’?

Moon saw his popularity rise with Cheese in the Trap, where he played Kim Sang Chul, a cheeky student in main character Hong Seol’s class. Moon showed his passion for acting and his commitment to the role, which required him to transform his body and gain 12 kilograms.
