IU is kicking off the month of May with a bang by hitting number one on the music charts with her new single, “Eight (Prod. & Feat. Suga of BTS),” and by making a special donation in celebration of family month.
“Eight,” which is a collaboration between IU and Suga from the group BTS, immediately reached the top of several domestic charts, including Melon, Genie, Bugs, Soribada, and Naver, upon its release on May 6. The song remained at the top on the following day, and also reached number one on the iTunes Top Songs charts in 59 countries and regions, as well as on the Worldwide iTunes Songs chart.
Also on the seventh, the county of Yangpyeong reported that IU had donated 10 million won to families living in the county in honor of the month of May, also known as “family month” in South Korea.
The singer-songwriter and actress had also made a donation of 20 million won to Yangpyeong County back in March to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). IU’s donation went toward the purchase and distribution of masks to social welfare facilities and daycare centers, as well as toward helping economically disadvantaged families. In addition to her generous contribution to Yangpyeong County, she also donated 100 million won to Good Neighbors to help fight the spread of COVID-19, 100 million won worth of medical personal protective equipment to the Korea Medical Association, and 30 million won to Seocho District in Seoul.
IU also made a donation of 100 million won to Green Umbrella Child Fund Korea ahead of Children’s Day on May 5. The recent 10 million won donation to Yangpyeong County will go toward providing aid to single-parent families and grandparent-headed households.
