K-pop group MONSTA X heated things up at the KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER event.
MONSTA X appeared in the KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER online festival hosted by CJ ENM on June 20 and gifted fans all over the world with special performances that made it seem as if they were putting on their own headlining concert.
After making a splashy appearance on stage in jewel-embroidered outfits with touches of red, the group kicked things off with “FANTASIA,” the title track off their most recent EP. The sextet wowed viewers with a dynamic performance in front of a background reminiscent of a desert. The group also performed “Stand Up,” a fan song written by member Jooheon for MONSTA X’s official fan club, MONBEBE. The heat was intensified during the song through a fan-featuring event made possible by the group interacting with their fans. Fans from all over the globe were shown participating in a massive sing-along to “Stand Up” and dancing along with the choreography perfectly, making the performance all the more meaningful.
As the concert was being streamed worldwide, MONSTA X continued to put on special performances for their global fans. The group showed off their sweet and groovy side with “YOU CAN’T HOLD MY HEART,” the title track off the album ALL ABOUT LUV, which made it to the No. 5 spot on the Billboard 200 chart after being released in February. During the performance of “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT,” the boys sang into standing microphones with their sweet and mellow voices and delivered smooth dance moves.
The highlight of the evening came during a rare performance of “Sambakja,” a song written by the group’s rappers, Jooheon and I.M. The two members came on stage donning durumagi (traditional Korean overcoat) and showed off their charisma during a sensational performance of the song, which combines gugak (Korean traditional music) with hip-hop. The explosive rapping and addictive hook, in addition to Jooheon’s impressive drumming skills and I.M’s remarkable stage presence, made the fans feel as if they were actually watching the performance in person.
On top of all the singing and dancing, the group also held a “meet and greet” event in which they shared stories with their fans. The boys reflected on the meaning of the KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER event by expressing their thoughts on the special concert and updated the fans on what they had been up to.
Meanwhile, MONSTA X have been growing their global fanbase through the recent promotions of their EP FANTASIA X and the album’s title track “FANTASIA.”
