Actress Kwan Jin Young has been hospitalized after attempting to take her own life, according to recent reports. 


On December 31, a media outlet reported that “Kwak Jin Young was taken to the ICU of a nearby hospital on the 30th after attempting to take her own life in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, where she runs a kimchi business.” The same outlet also confirmed that Kwak had regained consciousness on the morning of the 31st.


Kwak has reportedly been opening up to friends about the emotional distress she has been under due to the malicious comments that she has been receiving online recently. 


Netizens who heard about the news left comments online such as: “I pray that everything is okay”, “I just saw the news on TV and I’m shocked,” “I hope it’s a false report,” and “I hope she wakes up soon.”


After making her debut in 1991, Kwak Jin Young starred in television dramas such as Eyes of Dawn and Love Is in Your Embrace. She became a household name in 1992 when she played the role of Jong Mal in the drama Son and Daughter. She then went on to become a successful entrepreneur when she started her kimchi business in 2010. 


Kwak’s most recent appearance on the small screen came in October, when she starred on the SBS variety program, Flaming Youth.
