EXO’s record label, SM Entertainment, announced on February 26 that Chanyeol “will be enlisting for active-duty military service on March 29.”
Due to the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic, the location and time of his enlistment will not be made public. The label added that there would also be no events held to celebrate the occasion.
Previously, on the 24th of last month, Chanyeol opened up in a post on a fan community forum. The post came four months after the idol star found himself at the center of a controversy surrounding his private life.
He started off by saying, “Above all, I would first like to apologize to the EXO-L’s, who have been waiting the longest. I’m sorry for causing you concern.”
Chanyeol, who recently received letters from his fans wishing him a happy birthday, went on to say, “I’ve been thinking about how I can protect the precious hearts of the EXO-L’s and repay them, as well as reflecting on how I never want to make you all worry again.”
“I’ll do my best to clearly show you that you didn’t make a mistake by having faith in me,” he added. “I remember and won’t forget how I was in the beginning, nine years ago. I’ll never forget the determination I had then.”
Chanyeol got swept up in a controversy last October, regarding details of his private life. At the time, he did not issue a statement explaining his position on the matter.
