Singer and actor Rain’s aviation film is finally set to take off after its long post-production.
“R2B: Return to Base,” which was first introduced at the 16th Pusan International Film Festival last October, is finally opening in local theaters on August 15, the National Liberation Day, according to its distributer CJ Entertainment’s press release on Tuesday.
Rain’s long-awaited film had sparked media hype with director Kim Don-won behind the screen, who has helmed numerous hit movies such as “My Boss, My Hero” (2001) and “Bet On My Disco” (2002).
Co-starring KBS’ “My Husband Got a Family” star Yoo Jun-sang and actress Shin Se-gyeong, “R2B” is expected to be one of the biggest blockbuster films this summer alongside “Deranged” and “The Thieves.”
According to the officials, a combined marketing and production investment of around one billion Korean won [about 8.8 million U.S. dollars] have been pumped into the action-packed drama.
“R2B,” which is aiming for a record-breaking holiday opening, revolves around the life, love and comradeship of fighter pilots amid a risky situation on the Korean Peninsula, roughly based on 1964 Korean film “Red Muffler.”
The forthcoming pic will be competing with Cha Tae-hyun’s “Gone With the Wind” (translated title) and Ju Ji-hoon’s “I am the King,” which are both historical comedies opening on August 9.
