Korea’s major broadcaster MBC has granted a three-episode extension to its ongoing medical series “Golden Time.”

A PR rep of MBC told the magazine over the phone Thursday that the chart-topper of the Monday and Tuesday primetime lineup has been rescheduled to air a total of 23 episodes.

“We have been hoping to extend ‘Golden Time’ in order to wrap up the story with more polished ending. Thanks to the staffs and cast members’ agreement and support, the drama is now set for three more episodes,” he said.

With the renewed air dates, the mega-hit medical series will close the curtain on September 25.

The official also added that the they are in discussions to produce the second season but it nothing has been set yet.

“Golden Time,” starring actor Lee Sun-kyun and actress Hwang Jung-eum, has drawn favorable responses from the critics and viewers with its delicate portrayal of doctors struggling to save patients in the general hospital in Busan.

The series has scored its eighth consecutive win atop the Monday and Tuesday primetime ratings chart with ratings between 15 and 16 percent, beating off the other two strong competitors, SBS’ “The Great Doctor” and KBS’ “Haeundae Lovers.”
