PSY Picked as Most Popular Celebrity by Weibo, “Gangnam Style” May Be Registered in Collins Dictiona

Sensational singer-rapper PSY has been cementing his status in the international scene, this time by setting new records in China and U.K.

Chinese media outlets reported that the Korean artist was mentioned about 197 million times by Weibo [a Chinese social network service] users this year and was selected as the most popular celebrity of 2012.

Since his official Weibo account opened on November 8, PSY has gained some 4 million followers in just 45 days.

And his global hit “Gangnam Style” ranked at the No. 3 spot on the 2012 Weibo Hot Issue chart, has been mentioned about 100 million times on Weibo so far.

Meanwhile, the smash-hit tune featuring the horse-riding dance is now up for inclusion in a dictionary after publisher Collins named it among the words of the year.

Collins Dictionary has chosen a total of twelve words – “Gangnam Style” was selected in November.

However, Collins officials said appearing on the Collins words of the year list is no guarantee of insertion in the next dictionary.
