Han Dong-geun, the winner of MBC talent show “Star Audition: The Great Birth 3,” has become label mates of singer Son Dambi and girl group After School.
The 19-year-old vocalist has signed a management deal with Korean entertainment management company Pledis Entertainment, the firm said in a press release on Wednesday.
“We’re going to give full support for Han, whose musical ability has been proven through ‘The Great Birth.’ His new music is coming up, though the detailed schedule for his debut album is not settled yet,” an official from Pledis said in the statement.
Han Dong-geun grabbed attention after performing the Eagles’ “Desperado” on the TV audition show last October, for which a single was released thereafter. It was known to be an exceptional occasion for the rock band to allow for the hit song’s release.
He finally won the contest and won its prize money of a jaw-dropping 300 million Korean won [269,614 U.S. dollars] at the show’s finals this May.
Pledis Entertainment, one of the promising mid-sized agencies here, is also the management firm of female soloist Kahi, boy band NU’EST, girl group HELLOVENUS and soon-to-debut seventeen-member boy band SEVENTEEN.
The Korean music scene is now full of young and talented audition-born stars including Baek Chung-kang and Rise of Ladis’ Code from “The Great Birth,” Lee Hi and Park Jimin of 15& from SBS’s “K-Pop Star” and Seo In-guk, Huh Gak, John Park, Roy Kim and Yoo Seung-woo from Mnet’s “Superstar K.”
