Rookie group 100% has come back to the K-pop scene with their first mini-album “Real 100%.” Yes, it’s already their third release since their debut album “WE, 100%” just last September but it seems they were more than ready to be back. The group of seven has wowed fans with their charismatic dance moves while maintaining strong vocals on stage for performances of the title song “Want U Back.” They have even been called the ‘idols who swallowed their CD’ because their voices were close to perfect.
The talented members of 100% sat down with TenAsia to talk how they are back with a heart of a debut artist.
Q: How would you introduce yourselves in one sentence?
Minwoo: We are a group of seven who stage dance performances with strong vocals.
Q: What is the meaning behind 100%?
Minwoo: We picked 100% as our name because when you hear the word ‘100%’ you picture perfection. We wanted to be complete in every aspect – such as dancing and singing. And for our fans, we promise to keep working hard for it.
Q: You’ve made a comeback with your first mini-album “Real 100%.”
Changbum: As a rookie band, we were worried that people had forgotten about us because we were absent from the K-pop scene for five months.
Minwoo: And during that time, other bands debuted with new albums or appeared on comedy programs which made us very anxious. But we took that time to improve. We worked out a lot and trained hard to be better performers. We don’t feel any great sense of achievement right now because we still have a long way to go. So, we feel like we are debuting again.
Q: What did you mainly focus on for this comeback?
Sanghun: We basically strengthened our vocals and dancing skills but we focused particularly on our facial expression. To show that we improved, we wanted to show composure on stage even though we are singing live.
Q: Which is each member’s favorite tune in the album?
Hyukjin: I like the fourth track “Flavor” the most. It really whispers in your ears and it is nice to listen to when you’re falling asleep.
Changbum: Yeah, we put a lot of effort into it. We actually took more time recording that song than the title single.
Sanghun: Our album contains different genres but they tell one message.
Minwoo: In other words, we picked songs for the album that deliver the same message as “Want U Back” but in different moods. The title single “Want U back” is strong, sophisticated and sexy so we added on songs that are along the same lines of it.
