Up-and-coming actor Kim Soo-hyun has been cast in a film starring several high-profile movie stars including Kim Hye-soo, Jun Ji-hyun and Kim Yun-seok.
Through a press release on Monday confirming the cast of the movie, film distributor Showbox said that Kim, who had recently gained popularity through TV series “Dream High,” will play one of the seven thieves in a movie tentatively titled “The Thieves” alongside top actors Lee Jung-jae, Kim Hye-soo, Kim Yun-seok, Kim Hae-sook, Jun Ji-hyun and Oh Dal-soo.
“These are the very actors that inspired me to write what I have for the movie’s script starting from its first line. I’m dreaming of creating explosive ensembles that will clash or harmonize within a single movie due to their different styles,” director Choi Dong-hoon of hit pics “The Big Swindle” (2004), “The War of Flower” (2006) and “WOOCHI” (2009) was quoted as saying in the statement.
Set to start filming in May, the upcoming action-crime pic will be about thieves from Korea and China teaming up to steal a diamond worth 40 billion won locked away in a casino in Macao.
Kim Yoon-seok, the main star of “WOOCHI” and “The Chaser,” will play Maco Park, a legendary gambler who plans out and commands the plan to steal the diamond from Macao while Lee Jung-jae of film “The Housemaid” which competed at last year’s Cannes International Film Festival, will be the leader of a group of Korean thieves who secretly plans to plot against Macao Park.
“The War of Flower” heroine Kim Hye-soo will turn into a genuis safe-cracker who teams with Popeye to get their revenge on Macao for betraying them in the past and Kim Hae-sook of Park Chan-wook’s Cannes Award-winnning pic “Thirst” and Jun Ji-hyun of “My Sassy Girl” will turn into a mother-and-daughter duo who are skilled at use their acting and rope-walking techniques, respectively, to steal jewelries and antiques.
Oh Dal-soo, known as one of the best supporting actors in the country, will show up as a Chinese thief named Andrew and Kim Soo-hyun will take on the role of the daring Jampano, the youngest of the five-member Korean group of thieves.
