YG Entertainment’s rookie singer Kang Seung-yoon has topped Korean online music charts with his debut tune.

Kang’s very first release “It Rains” took the No. 1 spot on the real-time streaming charts of local music distribution websites MelOn, Olleh Music, Daum Music, Naver Music and Mnet, as of Wednesday 11 a.m. KST, a day after its release on Tuesday.

Running neck and neck with other top songs “U&I” by Ailee and “Missing You Today” by Davichi, Kang proved his three years worth of hard training under YG after grabbing attention with TV audition “Superstar K 2.”

YG also deserves credit for the smooth start to Kang’s career since they decided to go with the soft rock ballad as his debut tune rather than the originally scheduled hard-rock debut song “WILD AND YOUNG,” due to the continuous rainy season in the Korean Peninsula.

The release of “WILD AND YOUNG” has been postponed to the end of this month, which will be followed by his first mini-album to be dropped in early September.

The singer-and-actor, 19, is also joining YG’s reality show “WIN,” the survival program that will let the public decide on YG’s one rookie boy group that will debut this year out of two teams, both of which have been training under YG.
