Rumor that girl group KARA member Jiyoung is dating Choshinsung member Geonil is not true, KARA’s agency DSP Media said on Monday.
An official with DSP told TenAsia over the phone that the two are “close friends but not dating,” responding to a report by Japan’s Daily Cyzo on Sunday that said the two are lovers.
The article also stated that Geonil, born in Germany and with experience studying in England, had an influence on Jiyoung’s decision to leave KARA when her contract with the group expires in April, but this too “makes no sense,” the official emphasized.
Just last week, DSP had announced that Jiyoung has decided to leave the group in order to pursue her studies and acting. DSP had also mentioned that during negotiations, Jiyoung expressed her wishes to study overseas.
Jiyoung and Geonil appeared in Tokyo TV drama “Rainbow Rose” last April and thereafter had acted as lovers for Jiyoung’s solo song “Wanna Do.”
Jiyoung, 20, is the youngest member of KARA who is considered one of the most successful Korean girl groups to break into the Japanese music market.
Geonil, 26, is a member of his six-member group, which debuted in 2007 and they too have led a particularly successful career in Japan.
